Warm ocean water (27°C or above). Light winds. They are normally found in tropical regions between 5° and 30° north and south of the equator. They usually form in late summer when sea temperatures are highest. The warm air above the ocean rises quickly, creating an area of very low pressure. Strong winds are generated as more warm moist air is drawn upwards from above the ocean.
