WebThe gradient of a scalar-valued function f(x, y, z) is the vector field. gradf = ⇀ ∇f = ∂f ∂x^ ıı + ∂f ∂y^ ȷȷ + ∂f ∂z ˆk. Note that the input, f, for the gradient is a scalar-valued function, while the output, ⇀ ∇f, is a vector-valued function. The divergence of a vector field ⇀ F(x, y, z) is the scalar-valued function.
