In Microsoft Excel, a function is a type of formula that allows the user to perform mathematical, statistical and logical operations more easily. While it is possible to create a unique formula, Excel offers users a variety of preset formulas that they term functions.

An Excel formula is what you type in a worksheet cell to perform a calculation on a Microsoft Excel worksheet. Basic Microsoft Excel formulas look like the basic math and algebra equations that you learned in grade school and high school. To begin a formula in a cell, you type an = sign followed by what you want to calculate.

Excel shortcuts come in eight basic flavors (there are more but these are the main ones): Ctrl shortcuts (which use the Ctrl key) Shift shortcuts (which use the Shift key) Ctrl+Shift shortcuts (which use the Ctrl and Shift keys together) Alt shortcuts (which use the Alt key) F-key shortcuts (which use the F-keys)
