If you are renewing a 10-year passport issued less than 15 years ago and can present your expired passport, you may apply by mail directly to the Embassy. The fee is US$130. If you cannot present a previous 10-year passport issued less than 15 years ago, you must appear in person for an interview with the Consular Officer.

To have a U.S. passport, you need to be a U.S. citizen by birth or naturalization or be a U.S. national. Depending on where you are traveling outside of the U.S., you will need to determine if you need a passport book or a passport card. A passport book is required for all international travel by air.

If you fill out the form electronically, at the end of the questionnaire you will need to print the form and bring it at the time of the interview. Request expedited service in person at a passport acceptance facility near you. This is for new passports. Expedited service costs an extra $60, plus any delivery costs. Normal and expedited processing times fluctuate throughout the year. Check the current processing times before you submit your application.
